With the rain falling and cold weather calling for comfort food the SGV never fails to make you feel warm inside when it’s cold out. At Luyixian, there is no frills or fanciness. It’s a homegrown restaurant like the ones you’d see in Taiwan. And the food reflects that coziness. Known for their braised pork and rice, the pork is braised long and falls apart. Everything is perfect and your plate is complete in both flavors and quantity. A spoonful with rice, pickled vegetables, and pork and you have happiness with each bite. Their other popular dish is the braised beef noodles. Coming piping hot, the amount of beef that comes in this dish is fit for a king. Slightly sweet but deep in flavor, the chewy noodles mixed with beef with leave a smile on your face. For sides, the garlic cucumbers are fantastic. Giving a fresh flavor, the contrast and cold temperatures gives a refreshing taste in-between hot spoonfuls of your main entrees. The red chili oil dumplings are rustic in texture and flavor. As you continue to eat, the food becomes more robust as the red chili oil saturates the last dumplings steeped at the bottom of the plate. It’ll remind you of homemade cooking and what’s more

The serving is humongous. The taste is top rate. It is slightly sweet. The 58. Braised beef brisket is what I got. I was told it has tendon, but I don’t recall any. There is limited parking spot at the back.

Beef noodle soup is a must try! I really enjoyed the whole experience from the food to the service. Came around 5pm on a Sunday and got sat down immediately. Once we sat they gave us chicken soup/broth that had a chicken foot inside, which might scare some people but I recommend you try it and expand on the foods you eat. It was a great intro to the food we where about to enjoy. Our whole order for 2 people was: garlic cucumber, 2x beef noodle soup, red oil dumplings, passion fruit smoothie, and a Thai tea. Easily star of the show was the beef noodle soup, this rates #1 so far for me when it comes to beef noodle soup. The broth was very hearty, lots of beef, and noodles a tad al dente which is my preferred way to eat them. Red oil dumplings were good but not out of this world, still a nice side dish in the same way the cucumbers were a side dish. Beef noodles soup 12/10. Garlic cucumbers 8/10. Red oil dumplings 8/10. Drinks 8/10.

Food: 4.9/5 Service: 4.7/5 Value: 4.9/5 As a Taiwanese person, this is probably the most authentic restaurant Taiwanese food I’ve had in the states. I truly loved every moment of this dining experience. We started with the complimentary chicken soup, which included goji, chicken feet, vegetables and an absolutely delicious bone broth. This was a perfect beginning to the meal, and had me salivating for everything to come. We got water spinach (37), spicy beef noodles (52) and braised beef rice (51). The braised beef rice was one with water spinach was one of my favorite combos that brought me right back to Taiwan. I loved the depth of the flavor of the meat, and when combined with some light vegetables and an egg, it brought me right back to my childhood. I can’t wait to come back and try other dishes! The spicy beef noodles was also great, but slightly too oily in my opinion. The noodles were still great and the broth was still delicious and spicy. I think I would try the non-spicy version next time and hope that it’s just slightly less oily, but would still grab this if you’re craving noodle soup!
